Contemporary collecting: Masonic snow globe

This snow globe depicts Masonic buildings in the state of Illinois. When wound up, the Masonic and state flags revolve as Freemason John Philip Sousa’s march ‘The Stars and Stripes Forever’ plays. The ‘snow’ is multicoloured glitter.

These globes were sold for charity in the early 2000s, but the Museum of Freemasonry got this one from an eBay seller in Texas after years of searching. Unique in many ways, and just one of many surprising things made for modern Freemasons.
